Mendeley is a software company based in London, UK, which provides products and services for academic researchers. It is most known for its reference manager which is used to manage and share research papers and generate bibliographies for scholarly articles.
Mendeley requires a free account and login. The free version allows for up to 2GB of storage.
Mendeley also shares usage information at the article level to measure an article's "reach."
Article Impact: An article's impact is typically measured by how many times it is cited in other scholarly articles.
Article Reach: An article's reach is a measure of its popularity. Reach can gaged by Twitter or other social media mentions, news site mentions, and bibliographic reference managers like Mendeley. This is also referred to as bibliometrics.
As a Local Application (Reference Manager): This is where you can organize, edit, and share your list of references.
As a Browser Extension: Mendeley works within your internet browser to pull bibliographic information from the resource that is being rendered by your browser. The extension will add the reference to your local application when your request.
As a MS Word Cite Add-on: Mendeley will automatically generate citations and bibliographies into your paper, pulling the references from your Mendeley account.
