About

The Archives & Special Collection Department of SUNY Buffalo State was established in 1975 and houses a growing vibrant collection of primary and secondary source materials available to faculty, students, and the public. Our collections include various student publications, scrapbooks, speeches, memorabilia, photographs, annual reports, budgets, and statistics starting in 1860 and stretching to the present. In addition, we hold scores of unique collections of local importance, regional interest, and national significance.

Visitor Information

Access to the department is available by appointment only. Due to the nature of the collection, all books, media, and special collections material do not circulate and are not available through Interlibrary Loan. Please contact the department by telephone or email for scheduling. Additional information can be found on our "Planning a Visit" page.

  • No food or drink is allowed in the Archives room.
  • We require the patron to take notes in PENCIL only. Pencils are provided upon request.
  • Patrons may be asked to wear cotton gloves when using some of the collections.
  • Notebooks and book bags are to be placed at a designated table. Only tablet paper is allowed at the work station.

A full listing of instructions and policies for new or returning visitors can be found in our "Visitor Guide to Using the Archives & Special Collections."
