We apologize for any inconvenience that results from the COVID-19 pandemic and appreciate your patience as we take the necessary measures to ensure the safety and well-being of our community.

Adjustments to Library Operations

Butler Library continues to monitor the evolving situation on campus and will provide updates related to building access, hours, services, and more as details become available. We are making every effort to limit the disruption to regular library operations for the spring semester.

Library Access
  • Butler Library, StudyQuad, Starbucks, and the Academic Commons are closed until further notice.

For current building and service hours, visit the library hours page.

Borrowing and Returning Materials
  • Access to all physical materials has been suspended.
  • Interlibrary loan of print materials has been suspended. If you currently have print material, the return date has been extended.
  • The library will actively remove fines and fees for any borrowed materials incurred during this time.
  • Due dates for anything currently checked out are extended to July 18th. Please disregard all overdue notices.
  • Books can be returned to library book drops but may take up to 7 days to be processed.
  • Interlibrary loans can also be returned in the book drops - please include as much original paperwork as possible.
  • Any items borrowed from another SUNY can be returned to Butler Library and we will return the item on your behalf.
  • Have questions about interlibrary loan or resource sharing, email
Equipment Loan

At this time, only PC laptops are available for loan to support remote instruction and work.

To ensure the safety and well-being of our community, we have enacted the following precautions:

  • Quarantine of returns for three days before returning to inventory.
  • Quarantine of inventory for nine days before returning to circulation.
  • Deep clean and sanitization of all equipment, including accessories, cables, and bags.
  • We encourage users with current loans to hold onto equipment until the end of the semester and disregard all overdue notices at this time.

We are doing our best to make Equipment Loan available once we have taken the necessary safety precautions. Faculty and staff in need of laptops for telecommuting and remote work should contact their respective departments. It will take us additional time to work with IT to configure Equipment Loan devices for potential faculty and staff use.

All scheduled and planned library events have been canceled.
