Shakespeare Studies

The Internet Shakespeare Editions (ISE) is a non-profit scholarly website publishing in three main areas: Shakespeareʼs plays and poems, Shakespeareʼs life and times, and Shakespeare in performance. Since 1996, the ISE website has been an innovator in providing academic resources for the online digital medium.

The Internet Shakespeare Editions offers multiple ways of exploring Shakespeareʼs plays and poems. We publish several versions of Shakespeare's works: searchable old-spelling transcriptions, modern editions prepared especially for the digital medium, and facsimile images of the original texts. Select any play or poem from the menu at the top of the screen to explore the texts or see a complete list of Shakespeare's works published on the site.

Scene is the ISE's semi-annual online journal devoted to Shakespeare in performance. Supported by the University of Victoria and published by the Internet Shakespeare Editions, Scene includes Shakespeare theater reviews and peer-reviewed articles by scholars, practitioners, and students. Reviews are linked to the ISE's Shakespeare in Performance database, and listed in the ISE's digital critical editions of the plays. Scene invites submission of review articles on all aspects of Shakespeare in performance, and welcomes reviews of professional, non-professional, or student productions wherever staged in the world.
