During spring 2023, we are reading two books:

  • Choice Words: Writers on Abortion is a literary anthology of poems, stories, and essays about abortion. We will meet online via Microsoft Teams every other Wednesday from 2 to 2:50 PM, beginning on February 15th. Session dates are 2/15, 3/1, 3/15, 3/29, and 4/12. The book club is open to faculty, staff, and students. Thanks to generous donations, up to ten student participants and up to five non-student participants will receive a free copy of the book. The book is also available in e-book format through the Library.
  • It's Always Been Ours: Rewriting the Story of Black Women's Bodies examines how whiteness and capitalism shape conversations about bodies, health, and wellness to the detriment of Black women. The author, Jessica WilsoBook cover of Wilson's It's Always Been Oursn, is speaking on campus on February 9th from 4 to 6pm at the Alumni Center. A month later, on March 9th, the book club will meet to discuss the book. The Office of Equity and Campus Diversity has generously donated 10 copies of the book to the book club.

The book club is open to faculty, staff, and students of Buffalo State University.

Anyone interested in joining the book club should complete this form by Friday, February 10th.

This program was made possible with the support of E. H. Butler Library, Equity and Campus Diversity, Student Leadership and Engagement, the Muriel A. Howard Honors Program, the Grant Allocation Committee, the Anne Frank Project, and Haymarket Books.
