Increasing Visibility, Reach, & Impact of Your Work

There are several ways to help improve the visibility of your published work. For more in-depth questions, please contact a librarian. Below is a list of common ways to improve reach and impact: 
  • Include you work in our faculty publications Digital Commons repository. 
    • E. H. Butler Library & Buffalo State University hosts faculty publications in our Digital Repository. If you are interested in providing your work, please fill out this FORM. Please provide us with a DOI and license information from the publisher.
    • Be advised that many publication agreements DO NOT ALLOW for full-text sharing of certain manuscripts and published. documents. Be sure to check your agreement. 
  • Publish in Open Access Journals to increase access to your publications. 
    • Search the Directory of Open Access Journals (DOAJ).  
      • DOAJ can help identify journals that aren't predatory and you can filter to open access journals that do not charge an APC. 
      • For more information about APCs and our agreement with Cambridge University Press, please see our Open Access & APCs page. 
  • Consider creating a personal website or listing your publications on a university or college website. Be sure to include DOIs for your articles or permalinks to our Primo ALL-Search article records. 
  • Create more of an online presence by creating identifiable links like ORCID IDs, Google Scholar Profile, or LinkedIn account. Butler Library subscribes to Clarivate Web of Science that also has Researcher Profiles. To set up a Research Account on Web of Science please visit our A to Z Databases Link for Web of Science OR contact a Librarian. 
  • When applicable and when your license allows, share your publications in public repositories: 
    • Academia: Academia is a platform for sharing academic research. Academics have uploaded 40 million papers, and 96 million academics, professionals, and students read papers on Academia every month.
    • AgEconAgEcon Search is a free-to-user Web site that contains the full text of working papers, conference papers and journal articles in applied economics, including the subtopics of agricultural, consumer, energy, environmental, and resource economics. Contributors include academic institutions, government agencies, professional associations, and non-government organizations.
    • ArXivarXiv is a curated research-sharing platform open to anyone. As a pioneer in digital open access, arXiv.org now hosts more than two million scholarly articles in eight subject areas, curated by our strong community of volunteer moderators.
    • Cite SeerCiteSeerx is an evolving scientific literature digital library and search engine that has focused primarily on the literature in computer and information science. CiteSeerx aims to improve the dissemination of scientific literature and to provide improvements in functionality, usability, availability, cost, comprehensiveness, efficiency, and timeliness in the access of scientific and scholarly knowledge.
    • ResearchGate: ResearchGate is a European commercial social networking site for scientists and researchers to share papers, ask and answer questions, and find collaborators.
    • Social Science Research Network (SSRN)SSRN´s eLibrary provides 1,176,206 research papers from 1,127,790 researchers in more than 70 disciplines.
